Several of Blå Station’s chairs meet the Nordic Ecolabel’s environmental and quality criteria and have been awarded the Swan which is the Nordic Ecolabel. The Nordic Ecolabel criteria for furniture stipulate low environmental impact as well as high quality.

We have concentrated our efforts on gaining the label for the furniture that is used in public places, where there are extremely strict requirements on functionality and quality, for example in schools, airports and meeting halls. We have chosen products with a variety of components and materials to show our product breadth.
The Nordic Ecolabel criteria for furniture stipulate low environmental impact as well as high quality. Furniture that is long-lasting is in itself an environmental advantage, because it does not have to be discarded after a short time. Furniture is also tested for sustainability and stability and must fulfil Nordic Ecolabel safety requirements.
Other Nordic Ecolabel environmental criteria include a requirement that wood must not originate from protected forests. At least 70 per cent must originate from certified sustainable forests, with an independent control body certifying that tree felling follows strict rules and that there is a re-planting scheme in place.
Textiles and fillings must also meet strict chemical requirements, from the type of cotton grown (spraying is prohibited) to end materials. Certain flame retardants and dyes are completely forbidden.
In addition, most of the metal used must be recycled metal. This type of metal lowers energy consumption and reduces the amount of pollutants that often come from metal manufacture. These measures also ensure a reduction in emissions that have a negative impact on the global greenhouse effect.
